Although the conference ends on the 19 August, the organizers kindly recommend to extend your stay in Budapest until the next day, since 20 August is Hungary's most important public holiday – Saint Stephen's day – when Hungarians celebrate St. Stephen of Hungary (ca. 975 – 1038 A.D.), the first king of medieval Hungary, who established the institutions of the kingdom. This is celebrated with many special cultural events all around the city and culminates in a spectacular firework at the bank of the Danube in the evening, which is attended by many people on both river banks and is also perfectly visible from the hills on the Buda side.
